The secret to achieving a smooth relocation is to simplify it as much as possible. We want the process of moving to be as stress free as possible. So, here is your guide to donating, dropping off, and disposing unwanted items when you move in Boulder, Colorado.
Are you moving out?
Moving is not only boxing up items but sorting through what you'd like to keep along the way. As you come across these items you might not be sure of where to dispose some of them and Boulder can fine you up to $1000 for improper disposal of trash or personal belongings.
What is ok to leave?
The new Buyer appreciates moving into a home with the Seller's items removed. Unless otherwise talked about or required by the contract, these items are the most typical things it is ok to leave in your home for the new owner. Please remove all items not currently in use in the home. But, leave...tile, grout, paint, screens, flooring, or extras of other finishes currently used in your home. It's best to have these neatly tucked away in a storage area or garage. If you have a question just shoot me an email and I'm happy to answer if the item should be left in or removed from the home.
Remember to pick up a donation slip for tax time.

Sell Items Online
If you’ve ever looked through Craigslist or different local groups on Facebook, then you already know that sometimes people practically give furniture away. Quite often, the reason for the very low prices is that people are moving and don’t want the burden of moving their heavy furniture long distances. If you have time for something like a garage sale, selling your furniture is definitely a solid option. My favorite and most efficient online furniture sale tool is Facebook Marketplace. I like to set a day and a span of 3-4 hours that items can be picked up. I note the day, time, ways money is accepted (Venmo for me) and estimated location to limit the messages being sent back and forth. As items sell I remove them.
Consign Furniture
Consigning your furniture is a great way to recoup your costs and sell items that won't be making the move.

Electronics
Electronic recycling and disposal events are held throughout the year. Depending on the type of electronic you have the location might be different. Check out Boulder's E-Waste locations and events here.
Paint, Cleaning Products, Yard Products, Prescriptions, Etc.
Other items that need to be handled outside of the standard trash is available by appointment only at Boulder's Hazardous Material Management. But appointments can easily be confirmed online for a scheduled drop off time.
Food
You'll note there are a couple locations mentioned above who accept non perishable food donations. Another option is to donate to your local food pantry.
Pet Items
Lightly or unused pet items are always in demand with your local humane society or foster organization.
I'm glad we can make your transition to your next home more enjoyable every step of the way.
Please research and review each company to make sure they fit your needs. These are only recommendations to make things easier for your move but you are not required to use any of the mentioned companies.
