Our Family Ties Custom Build embraces a Modern Organic aesthetic with layered neutrals and warm woods. To help us get the look we partnered with Cle Tile. Their handmade clay tiles create a rich artisan look that you will fall in love with. It’s a design splurge that makes a difference. Today we are showing off Cle’s beautiful tiles and sharing three tile trends we used in this build.

Trend #1: Moroccan Zellige Tile

Moroccan Zeillige Tiles are handmade glazed terra cotta. They are incredibly beautiful and we used them throughout our Family Ties Custom Build. We love them for adding incredible dimension to a neutral space. Because the tiles are handmade, no two are exactly alike in either color or size. This adds a pretty artisan vibe to a space.

For the kitchen and pantry backsplash we featured Cle Tile’s 2″x6″ Zellige in Sea Salt. We wanted the space to feel crisp and airy, but the Zellige ensures that it also feels warm and layered with texture. It’s a hint of Old World that adds depth to our new build.

In the laundry room, we used 4″x4″ Zellige in Weathered White. We paired the square tile with Natural Zellige 4″ Octagon/Bouchon on the floor. The combination is beautiful with the white wall tile creating an open airy feel while the warm natural terra cotta grounds the space.

In this Jack and Jill Bathroom 2″x6″ Zellige in Tarnished Silver adds contrast to the white and wood space. We set the tile from floor to ceiling using a herringbone pattern. A full wall of tile adds a lux designer feel and makes Cle’s handmade artisan tile feel like a major feature of the space. We paired the rich wall tile with classic Carrara Marble Hex flooring. The white reflects the light in the space, while the pretty veining ties in the gray wall.

Trend #2: Stacked Horizontal Tile

Instead of a traditional staggered tile look, for many of the spaces in this home we decided to set the tile stacked horizontally. The trend creates a more clean-lined modern feel. In the pantry above we used the same 2″x6″ Zellige in Sea Salt used throughout the kitchen and paired it with this incredible Belgian Reproduction Circle and Losange in Flemish Black on the floor. We love the way the clean modern feel of the stacked horizontal contrasts with the Old World Zellige subway and Belgian-style floor tiles.

In this shower the 2″x8″ Cement Solid Rectangle tiles create a very crisp look that we like in a bathroom. It feels fresh, modern, and clean. It’s a great pairing with a more intricate or traditional tile. We used it opposite Cle’s Carrara Marble Herringbone Mosaic in the bathroom below.

Trend #3: Slate Tile

Slate tile is both beautiful and practical. It grounds a space with it’s rich dark color and matte texture but is also highly durable and cost effective. It’s a good choice for bathrooms, laundry, or mudrooms because it is naturally slip resistant. In this bathroom, we paired it with an intricate herringbone mosaic of Carrara marble.

In the mudroom, we used 6″x24″ Slate Large Plank tile. We used dark grout to keep the color consistent and placed it in a herringbone pattern for interest.
